Halloween Decorating Ideas - Fondant Eyes

My Store Admin

It wouldn't be Halloween without some candy eyes on your sweet treats. You can easily buy premade candy eyes they come in a small pack perfect for when you need to decorate a few items or bulk pack when baking up a storm.  But for those times when you need the eyes a little bit smaller/larger or even a different colour or shape they are easy to make, fun to do and look great on a cupcake to make your own monster cupcakes.  The basic method is simple and by changing the size of cutter you use to suit the size you need to make.  What you'll need: -Fondant/Sugarpaste in colour of your choice -Round or Oval Cutters -Edible Pen         Method:  Roll out the fondant on a non-stick mat to a thick of a 2-3mm with a rolling pin. Using a cutter of your choice cut out circles or ovals -do a few extra then you think you'll need. Place the fondant shapes on a piece of parchment paper and allow to dry for about 20 minutes -you can also leave a few hours or overnight. With an edible pen lightly draw a dot on the fondant shape, this is where you can have a bit of fun you can place the dot anywhere in the circle from the top, bottom or middle. Depending where you place the dot gives character to the eyes when placed on the cupcake. Try a few different placements to see where you like it best.  Add extra spooky details like blood shot lines by using a red edible pen to draw some lines around the eye.  And done! Simply add to a sweet treat to turn it into a monster.     Simple addition of a dot takes them from plain rounds, circles and ovals to eyes                     Cake Decorating Advice Why leave the fondant to dry before drawing with the edible pen? Fondant is soft and pliable when you roll it out and cut out the shape you need, by allowing it to dry for a few minutes before drawing with the pen this allows the fondant to slightly harden. If you try to draw on freshly rolled fondant it's soft and there is a chance you'll press the tip of the pen into the fondant.  By allowing the fondant to harden even for a few minutes you reduce the chance of this but still light pressure when writing on the fondant.
